I saw on TV the roof was just timber trusses and zinc sheeting , in that area it is obvious that normal commercial and domestic construction methods are insufficient and that the walls and the roof should be of reinforced concrete .

As sad as this is, we created it by ourselves. First, we dummed down the schools, beginning sometime in the late 70s or early 80s. All the focus on self-esteem meant that children didn’t need to know math. Well, guess what? The ability to understand the labor force participation rate relies on a basic comfort level with math.

Since they don’t know any math, they also can’t grasp logic. They don’t understand why employers can’t just give them what they want, or the government can’t just keep writing checks. They don’t understand the relationship between taxpayers and various programs designed to help the unemployed or underemployed. Specifically, they don’t get that you can’t hire more and more government workers as fewer and fewer people are working in the private sector. They say: Government workers pay taxes too. Yes, Virginia, they do. But their salaries come from the bigger pool of taxes and they put back only a portion. So you need lots of private sector activity. This is pretty simple, unless you’re a liberal. Then it gets real “mathy” and who wants to think about that? Ewww.

Perhaps after what we are seeing in Oklahoma surely it is time to listen to the story of the three piggies and to stop building such flimsy housing.We awoke to harrowing scenes of dead people in schools and homes blown away which could have been minimized by building homes out of re-inforced concrete with steel structural members.Change the building codes in all areas subject to such weather extremes NOW and do not allow them to rebuilt out of timber and tar paper.

Aggie, the question “what if Bush…?” has got to be one of the most worn-out phrases in the English language—and it’s still under-used! Applying it to the New York Times alone would keep a team of scribes busy every day for the next decade.

In defence of Scotland, the woman in charge of the Church and Society Council which published the report is an American. Her first and only loyalty is to the political doctrines of the far left. Sadly she has wrapped herself in the flag of my national church and uses her pulpit to preach the gospel according to Stalin.

I recently left the Church of Scotland because of her and the kirk’s apparent approval of her behaviour.

P.S. Haggis is delicious, you’re missing out.
