Not-so-Little Debbie

You remember Debby Smith, the Henrietta Hughes of the health care town hall burlesque show.

She’s the one whose tearful recounting of her battle with her private insurer over her cancer treatment earned her a hug from the Empath-in-Chief, and a promise to see what he could do for her.

It turns out that’s the least he could do—after all she’s done for him:

Debby Smith, however, is no ordinary patient. While she may be “unemployed,” she has been rather busy working for the Obama campaign – as a volunteer for Organizing for America. It’s the old Obama for Change political machine now housed under the Democratic National Committee. Smith has also identified herself as a worker for the Virginia Organizing Project, which has been coordinating lobbying trips and health care forums with HCAN. Yes, that same HCAN.

In December, Smith moderated a “a community discussion on health care issues” in Appalachia, Virginia and told her local paper that the meeting “would be reported back to former Sen. Tom Daschle, who has been directed by President Elect Barack Obama to form a committee to report on health care issues.”

Debby is a large woman, which is utterly beside the point—for now.

How long, however, before Obama’s lab-coated storm troopers withhold treatment until she pares a few pounds? Chemo or Creamsicle, honey, you can’t have both.

Obama went to VA for a staged health care reform “town hall meeting”. The highlight of that was Debbie Smith, who allegedly suffers from recurrent cancer and can’t afford care. She told a story and got a hug from Obama.

This woman claims that she opted for radiation therapy over an operation for kidney cancer because of her obligation to care for an invalid parent. This was in the 1990’s. This is pure B.S. Radiation therapy for renal cell CA is a palliative treatment ,only for inoperable renal cancer and would never be offered as an alternative therapy to nephrectomy for the reasons she states. (renal is Latin for kidney and nephros is Greek)

The probability that she survived this long with palliative radiation for kidney cancer is very very low if not impossible.

She has worked for the DNC at least since 12/23/08. She claims to have been in the U.S. Marine Corp for 4 years and why wouldn’t she not qualify for VA benefits??

    I smell something bad!
