The American Taliban? That John Walker Lindh? Yep, his attorney:

Thanks for that clarification, counsel. I can only conclude, therefore, that John joined the Taliban to imprison women, destroy cultural treasures, and kill Afghanis of any stripe. Because that’s all the Taliban stands for. And as a guy who received the personal gratitude of Osama bin Laden, was he unaware of the Lion of Islam’s personal crusade (oops, bad word choice) against the United States of America?

Why would Obama pick such a legal vulture to represent the people of the United States?

Another key bit of info left out of these announcements was that Tony West raised $65 million for Obama’s presidential campaign.
But that’s only a fringe benefit. I would be cynical to think that’s the only reason the post-partisan president would pick such a notorious shark. We have no enemies: just Taliban we haven’t befriended yet.
And I would be even more cynical to wonder why it falls to right-wing bloggers to point any of this out.

I think this settles it, once and for all, on the off-chance that there was any sentient being left in the universe who hadn’t already figured this out: there is no depth to which Obama will not sink.
