The Illegal Alien Full Employment Bill
It turns out all those billions we’re spending to create jobs might better be described as a paquete estímulo, full of puerco—however obscene that may sound:
Tens of thousands of jobs created by the economic stimulus law could end up filled by illegal immigrants, particularly in big states such as California where undocumented workers are heavily represented in construction, experts on both sides of the issue say.
Studies by two conservative think tanks estimate immigrants in the United States illegally could take 300,000 construction jobs, or 15% of the 2 million jobs that new taxpayer-financed projects are predicted to create.
They fault Congress for failing to require that employers certify legal immigration status of workers before hiring by using a Department of Homeland Security program called E-Verify. The program allows employers to check the validity of Social Security numbers provided by new hires. It is available to employers on a voluntary basis.
The irony is that with the economy tanking, many illegals have been forsaking their “adopted” country for their native one. This very much intended “unintended consequence” should awaken in them a new patriotism and keep them around for at least a little while longer.

I’m sure Congress didn’t “fail to require” that employers certify the status of workers; I’m pretty sure they left that out on purpose. After all, who benefits most from illegals voting, with a little help from their friends at Acorn?
But I thought that all employers were required to certify that their new employees were legally eligible for work. Every time I have changed jobs in the last 10 years, they have insisted on seeing various forms of ID to confirm that I’m either a citizen or holder of a green card.
