Bush Hatred, Obama Euphoria

Good article here about the craziness

In fact, Bush hatred and Obama euphoria — which tend to reveal more about those who feel them than the men at which they are directed — are opposite sides of the same coin. Both represent the triumph of passion over reason. Both are intolerant of dissent. Those wallowing in Bush hatred and those reveling in Obama euphoria frequently regard those who do not share their passion as contemptible and beyond the reach of civilized discussion. Bush hatred and Obama euphoria typically coexist in the same soul. And it is disproportionately members of the intellectual and political class in whose souls they flourish.

I think that the reason they exist in the same soul is because the individuals have split the world into Good and Bad. Bush Bad, Obama Good. This is a primitive way of coping with the world and is more appropriate to the two year old set than to university professors and journalists.

We are letting ourselves become divided and tied to labels like good and bad, liberal and conservative, republican and democrat.

Why not try something different. Look at the each issue and make an informed choice on its merits, not its political origin. Neither party is hoping to do actual harm…… We just disagree on what is truly best.

Until we begin to think again as a nation, we will only continue to sink from a 2nd grade to a Pre-K mentality.

That horse left the barn long ago. Do you recall Bush-Hitler? How about the moveon ad that showed Bush morphing into Hitler?

But you’re right of course. Maturity would be nice. I hope I live to see it.

    Federalist,

I like the way you think, but I don’t think it’s so simple.

Republican and Democrat are objective, definable realities. Liberal and conservative become less objective, more subjective; good and bad more subjective still. It’s hard to find agreement on something like abortion, which is good or bad depending on your point of view.

But we’re supposed to disagree. When Rush Limbaugh famously declared he hopes Obama fails, he was quite clear that he hoped his policies fail. Rush thinks Obama’s policies are bad—bad for the country as a whole, bad for individual Americans. He went even further to suggest the disagreement was not an honest one, but a calculated effort to put more Americans on the government teat and insure their votes for the indefinite future. On the whole, we in this blog agree.

Contrast that with the personalization of the hatred against President Bush. I don’t recall anyone ever saying they merely hoped his policies failed. Too often it was rather decapitated effigies and Nazi allusions.

Harm has already been done to the country, and the people what done it are now running the place and doing more harm every day.

I can’t afford to be stuck in the 2nd grade: it took me three years to get out last time. I actually feel wiser and more mature now than I ever did in the twenty-five years I spent supporting Democrats and their liberal causes. If it’s all right, I’m going to keep calling out the dangers as I see them. And I reserve the right to be disrespectful to the people and ideas that deserve disrespect.

Dissent is patriotic, after all. Like paying taxes.

    Bloodthirsty,

You and Rush can go right ahead saying that it’s his policies that you disagree with. As for me, I not only disagree with his policies, but also believe that he is totally unscrupulous and will say or do anything to get wht he wants. I’ll probably never compare him to Hitler, even if he has proposed a version of the Hitler Youth. I think he resembles Stalin more closely. :-)

    Tanstaafl,

You say Stalin, I say Mao.

On this we can surely agree to disagree.
