Mettle Fatigue
We choose the candidates based on their decisions, their judgement—and what is more central to that choice than their selection of a Vice President?
Haven’t we all heard that position articulated time after time?
By that criterion, this candidate is unfit for office (hint: it’s not whom you think it is):
ANNCR: Listen to Joe Biden. Talking about what electing Barack Obama will mean.
JOE BIDEN: Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama.
The world is looking. We’re going to have an international crisis … to test the mettle of this guy.
I guarantee you it’s gonna happen.
ANNCR: It doesn’t have to happen. Vote McCain.
But if we were paying attention, we knew this is what Biden felt all along:
ANNCR: What does Barack Obama’s running mate say about Barack Obama?
ABC’S GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: You were asked, “Is he ready?” You said, “I think he can be ready but right now, I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.”
JOE BIDEN: I think that I stand by the statement.
ANNCR: And what does he say about John McCain?
…
BIDEN: John McCain is a personal friend, a great friend, and I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off….
Biden’s judgement is sound. But what about Barack Obama’s? He’s gotta be slapping his head in a V-8 moment and saying to himself “I coulda had Hillary!”
