Sic Transit Gloria Media
Not that it was (yeah, I know, they were) ever that glorious.
But now even my chocolate brown English Labrador won’t go near the newspapers. I think she finds them unclean.
Financial crisis? What financial crisis? How about that nude Sarah Palin painting by a PDS-infected artist who used his naked daughter as the model?
Ick.
Ick indeed.
I don’t think I’m going to copy and paste the coloring book picture here because the point isn’t that some lamebrained Rembrandt thought he was being funny.
The point is that a major national newspaper (ha-ha-ha!) felt it newsworthy to report this nonsense, to waste newsprint on it, to actually print the picture (however “tastefully” obscured).
Where’s my Obama-as-Sambo picture? Do I have to paint it myself—I can’t even draw stick figures. Or would that be offensive? If so, why would it be more offensive than this?
Explanations on a postcard, please.

BTL,
Apparently you have not read my notes in a previous post. There are rules about bigotry. For example, sexism is okey-dokey. So is anti-Semitism, anti-Christianism, hatred of white men, there are many different hatreds that can be expressed to our hearts’ content.
But we MUSN’T poke fun or disrespect at The Messiah. Or, for that matter, anyone who claims African descent. Some minorities are protected, others need to be ground beneath the heels of our boots.
If you draw Sambo, I’m not bailing you out.

My little sister had a “Little Black Sambo” book way back when. He was Indian and we know that because he ran so fast that he made butter out of tigers. No tigers in Africa. I don’t recall anything derogatory about anyone in that book.
Anyway, I have been looking at the Dow Jones off and on today and I want to know why the useless jerks in the media seem to perpetuate the notion that once the market goes up, it should never ever go down. I know: if it bleeds, it leads. But couldn’t they be honest for just a minute, just one tiny minute, and actually tell the truth about what’s going on instead of encouraging panic in the streets?
It’s just a thought.

And another thing: I look at the DJIA and it’s up and down and there are all these notes that relate to articles in the right-hand column and these articles are about the reasons that hundreds of thousands of people are trading millions of shares. And does not not occur to the entire world to shout with one voice, “How the hell do they know?” I really hate the press a little more each day.

Carol,
In the book I used to read with my little daughter it was GHEE not butter - another piece of evidence that Sambo was Indian…
