Palin By Comparison
Good polling numbers for McCain since picking Governor Palin. Read ‘em and weep, Obama supporters:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday—the day before the Republican National Convention is scheduled to begin—shows Barack Obama ahead of John McCain by three percentage points both with and without leaners. That’s exactly the same edge Obama enjoyed a week ago on the eve of the Democratic National Convention.
Today’s numbers show a one-point improvement for McCain, but Obama still leads 47% to 44%. When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 49%, McCain 46% (see recent daily results). Obama is now viewed favorably by 57% of the nation’s voters, McCain by 56%.
There have been significant changes in perception of John McCain in the two days of polling since he named Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. Since then, 49% of Republicans voice a Very Favorable opinion of McCain. That’s up six percentage points from 43% just before the announcement. Also, 64% of unaffiliated voters now give positive reviews to McCain, up ten points since naming his running mate.
Most observers predicted a significant bounce for Obama after the convention—and his chances reasonably required one.
He got nothing.
While we’re all basking in the glow of the bold selection of Governor Palin, the honeymoon won’t last forever. But the Republicans haven’t held their convention yet. It will remain a very tight race, I suspect, but McCain has bettered everyone’s expectations.
Except mine, I suppose. I been tellin’ you he would gain and eventually overtake Obie.

Besides the fact that I think Obama won’t be a good president, I would like to see McCain/Palin elected because (and I realize this is a guy talking) I would like to see a man able to pick a female VP “just cause”. Pandering is always the first word out, and it doesn’t make sense, because any VP choice is pandering. The Biden choise is Obama pandering to pro-war. If McCain had picked the governor of a battleground state, he would be pandering.
I would like to see her get in, and that way, forever and always, the pandering nonsense would be forever invalidated.

I want to see her running because I think she’s a whole lot more aggressive than the others, plus, as a girl, she can get away with it without too much retaliation from the boys - hee. And if they did retaliate in kind, I don’t think it would faze her in the slightest. Plus her nickname is great. Plus she wears glasses. Plus McCain finally did something unexpected. This is just great. I actually gave a little money to McCain and in the space for “Who referred you” I put “Sarah Palin.”

Waaah! Nobody’s posting my comment. You’re all losers! Waah! Our country sucks! Waah-waah-waah!
What a whiny bitch.
And after reading your first comment, I can’t see why I’m posting it either, except to prove that we let even sick f**ks like you comment.
Down with Palin? Up yours.

My hope is that every sexually harassing troll, there are two voters who say, “Enough is enough.” How ironic it is that the left is putting women’s rights directly into play.

Maccabean,
At one time in my life I would have been amazed by the behavior of the Left. I was one of them for over 30 years. I have been watching and listening to their sexism, anti-Semitism, hatred for America, for the troops, etc. for quite some time now and have gotten fed up. It makes me sad but it no longer surprises me. I hope that many voters read those repulsive comments and decide to give McCain - Palin their votes.

Aggie,
I too was a lib for 30-some years, but a “classic liberal” who believed that John Locke and his compatriots rocked. I got my news from the NYT, and all that I knew about conservatives (exclusively from the MSM) was that they were wrong and evil. But the anti-semitism began getting to me (thank you, Tony Auth, et al.!), and after 9/11, I started reading Best of the Web Today. From there to Little Green Footballs, Powerline and, of course, Bloodthirsty Liberal. If the left’s anti-semitism hadn’t peeled me away, I might have gone on like I was, oblivious to the double standards and the fact that the left’s only unifying force is from aggregating the power of a collection of diverse interest groups, each with its own political agenda.
What you and BL do is so vital to, and I’m sorry if this sounds out there but…, the cause of freedom and avoiding the second Holocaust. This blog is an important voice. I’m impressed every day that you two fight for what’s right, withstand the trolls, provide such insight, and that you have such great senses of humor. Every moring on my train ride to work, after I glance at the OpinionJournal page, I begin my blog trot at Bloodthirsty Liberal.
I don’t think I’ve commented here before tonight, but I’m sure there are many readerslike me who are grateful for what you two do. Thank you!

David,
Believe it or not, we have followed the same path, almost to the letter. NY Times, NPR, liberal Jewish family background… it never once crossed my mind to believe that conservatives had interesting ideas or solid values. When I first began to think about all of this, I was teased quite a bit by family and friends. As they began to realize that I was serious, the teasing turned to a rather unpleasant pressure. So much for respecting individual decisions…
Isn’t is reassuring to know that other people were infuriated by the anti-Semitism of the Left, especially around 9/11? And that others have noticed how any trending away from the approved line of thought is met with instant put-downs, sexism, comments about naivete, etc.? Smugness. (And that’s what I love about Sarah Palin - she unmasks the smugness in the most humorous way.)
Your comments mean a lot to me and that’s the truth. It’s great to know that you’re reading!

Speaking of sexism on the left, who remembers Stokely Carmichael saying, “The only position for women in the movement is prone.” 40 years later, and you’d think they would have learned something.

Carol,
I remember those days. There was huge sexism and disrespect for women in the hippie era, all presented as a sexual revolution.
