UN, as in UNreconstructed Anti-Semites
The United Nations is the supertanker among ships of state. You can spin the wheel hard aport, and it just keeps plowing straight ahead.
The United Nations Human Rights Council on Wednesday appointed American Jewish law professor Richard A. Falk - who has compared Israel to the Nazis - as special investigator on Israeli actions in the territories for a six-year term.
…
Falk, in his academic writing, has already stated that a Palestinian holocaust was in the making.
Yitzhak Levanon, ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, spoke against Falk’s appointment in an address to the council on Wednesday.
“In a recent article, [Falk] stated that he did not think it to be “an irresponsible overstatement to associate the treatment of Palestinians with the criminalized Nazi record of collective atrocity,” Levanon said.
“He has taken part in a UN fact-finding mission which determined that suicide bombings were a valid method of ’struggle,’” Levanon said.
“He has disturbingly charged Israel with ‘genocidal tendencies,’ and accused it of trying to achieve security through ’state terrorism,’” Levanon said.
“Someone who has publicly and repeatedly stated such views cannot possibly be considered independent, impartial or objective,” Levanon said.
What do independence, impartiality, or objectivity have to do with the UN? Are you serious? You got the wrong institution, pal. La Cosa Nostra displays those traits in greater abundance, with less corruption.
I mean, come on, this is the U-[bleeping]-N!
To the sound of cheers, and by an overhwelming majority of 40 out of 47 votes, the UN Human Rights Council today elected Jean Ziegler, the co-founder of the “Muammar Khaddafi Human Rights Prize,” as an expert advisor representing the Western world.
…
“Even within the benighted UN Human Rights council, today was a dark day for human rights,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a Geneva-based human rights monitoring agency. “The very credibility of the UN human rights system is now at stake.”
…
“The Swiss Foreign Ministry has gone into the election of Ziegler with eyes wide open,” said Neuer. “The next time Ziegler praises Khaddafi, Castro or Holocaust denier Roger Garaudy, they will bear direct responsibility. Having invested so much lobbying and vote-trading to install him, it is no longer credible for them to try and wash their hands of Ziegler’s abuses, claiming — as they tried to do in recent years — not to have any connection with him. From this day forward we will demand and expect the Swiss Foreign Ministry’s condemnation of his abuses, every single time.”
The human rights crowd is over-represented by people on the political Left—but I don’t know why that should be. I don’t know their politics, but this sort of impotent bleating by the well-intentioned but flaccid UN Watch accomplishes nothing. John Bolton may have been a bull in a china shop—but the china shop that is the UN needs a bull. What it really needs is a bunch of pissed-off Tibetans to trash the place, but that’s not likely to happen until they emerge from prison camps in the Gobi Desert in thirty years.
We were pretty hard on Kofi Annan in his day, but the UN is worse than just one man. It is the embodiment of the basest elements in the world today. Born to see that Nazism happened never again, it has taken on the role itself.

To describe the enthuiasm for Falk’s views and the Swiss behavior in pushing him and others as “the political left” is an insult to most of us liberals and left wingers. The pro-Nazi and anti-Semetic history of Switzerland dates all the way back to buying and banking the gold wrenched from the teeth of the murdered concentration camp victims, investing funds for leading Nazi figures, then keeping secret the bank accounts that exterminated Jews had in the hopes that relatives would never realize their existance. Switzerland is the leading force which blackballs Israel from the International Red Cross but welcomning such humitarian nations as Sadaam’s Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Burma, and North Korea. The younger generation of German’s have made profound efforts to repudiate the Nazi immoral past, but few in Switzerland will even discuss the history of that craven nation, lest their banks be exposed for that they are. The Swiss profit from every murderous dictator and kleptocrat in the world who deposit their stolen funds — along with the Mafia of many countires, in a country which not only makes few of any moral judgments, but is sufficiently greedy to keep all this venality secret.

I acknowledge what you say.
But you must acknowledge what I said, not what you think I said. “The human rights crowd is over-represented by people on the political Left…” is, from my experience, completely accurate. I do not thereby ascribe anti-Semitic views to all left-wingers—although I absolutely wonder about the indifference some of them seem to have to the anti-Semitic leanings of some of their causes and institutions.
Insult is what we do here—it’s a big blogosphere, it takes all kinds—but from the sound of you, no insults were intended. Sorry if any were inferred.
