Only You Can Prevent Media Misinformation
To all those who followed our advice: sorry about that.
Fire protection: An article in Wednesday’s [LA Times] Section A about preparing for a fire evacuation advised leaving lawn sprinklers on and using a garden hose to wet the roof or the area around your house. In fact, sprinklers should be turned off to preserve water for firefighters, and wetting a roof or area around your house is not effective in Santa Ana winds, fire experts say.

I would add, however, that urinating on the LA Times does render it fireproof. Not that you need that as a reason.
