Physician, Former Radical, Speaks Out
He is not alone; there are several educated, brave people who are taking on the radicals from within their societies, but we don’t hear them enough in the US. He deconstructs the false notion that terrorists are a product of poverty when he explains that his own father was a physician, his mother a French teacher. He was recruited to commit acts of terror, but he stepped back from the brink. We don’t hear from these brave souls often enough, not because they are not speaking, but because the media has chosen to ignore them. If we had more coverage of people like Dr. Hamid Tawfik, there would be more conversation among youth that are currently being recruited by terrorist groups.
