Well, I think he’s simply saying what so many on both sides think. Very few in the military have any respect for the man in office and think they’ve gone from a tool of diplomacy to a tool of partisan politics. You could see it in the eyes of most of the cadets, who are mostly too smart to be wowed by a teleprompter reader.
And for the left, look at how they sneer when you mention the Pentagon, any military academy or military base. They’ll see the military as a deep majority right wing political organization, because that’s how they see everything.

    Well put, Chad.

I have something else to offer. Matthews is essentially in competition with not only rivals on other networks, but within his own network. He’s got to out-moonbat the likes of Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, remember—no mean feat.

Remember how Olbermann bitch-slapped Matthews during the campaign for daring to ask if Obama had any accomplishments? Matthews knows there’s no future in being critical of Obama—he said as much when he notoriously announced he was going to… oh, let him tell you:

CHRIS MATTHEWS: Yeah, well, you know what? I want to do everything I can to make this thing work, this new presidency work, and I think that –

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Is that your job? You just talked about being a journalist!

MATTHEWS: Yeah, it is my job. My job is to help this country.

Funny, I thought that was the job of the “enemy camp”.

In my impressions of the speech, I forgot to mention Obama’s plea for national unity. His predecessor wasn’t able to convince the Left to work with him, so why should the Right engage in “Unity”? The daily kos, michael moore, moveon crowd have been nasty, nasty, nasty for quite some time. So I doubt whether the unity appeal will have much effect. The Left has been disrespectful of people who hold different opinions for years. Why should those of us who have been trashed by them suddenly catch the unity virus?
