Warning: Democratic Fundraising May Be Hazardous to Your Health and Welfare

Vince Foster, meet Christopher Kelly (Or do I mean Norman Hsu? Or Marc Rich? Or William Jefferson?):

Over the weekend, Rod Blagojevich’s former chief fundraiser, Christopher Kelly, died after his girlfriend found him over his car wheel in a lumberyard.

Kelly was about to check in to the Graybar Hotel before his death:

Kelly was facing at least eight years in prison after pleading guilty to fraud charges in two separate cases, and he was scheduled to start serving his time on Friday. Kelly was part of the former governor’s inner circle, and as chairman of Blagojevich’s campaign fund, he presided over a political war chest of millions of dollars. But at the time of his death, Kelly had run up thousands of dollars in personal debts was believed to be strapped for cash. He was facing three years in prison for hiding $1.3 million in income, including company money he used to pay gambling debts that he wrote off as business expenses. He was facing five additional years for taking part in an $8.5 million fraud involving roofing work on United Air Lines and American Airlines hangars at O’Hare International Airport. And still to come was a trial in a sweeping indictment that charged Blagojevich, Kelly and four other men with planning several fraudulent deals involving state government and millions of dollars in kickbacks.

Kelly served as part of Blago’s wheeler-dealer Kitchen Cabinet along with convicted fraudster Tony Rezko.

Rezko had loaned money to his business partner and fellow Blago confidante Kelly, who had schemed to evade the IRS by using ill-gotten gains to pay off his massive debts.

Rezko, of course, served as an ardent fund-raiser for Saint Obama and cooked up his sweetheart real estate trade in Chicago, land of coincidences.

And that’s not all. As I recount in Culture of Corruption, now-Attorney General Eric Holder signed up to assist Blago in a casino license battle in 2004. The state’s gaming board had approved the construction of a disputed casino, overruling the recommendation of the board’s staff. Rank-and-file investigators had qualms over the casino developer’s alleged mob ties and over Blago’s appointment of a crony fund-raiser to oversee the state’s deal-making with the casino. The fund-raiser was…

… Christopher Kelly.

Somehow, the foul-smelling case slipped Holder’s mind; he failed to mention it in his Senate Judiciary Committee questionnaire.

That’s Michelle Malkin connecting the dots.

Another perspective:

“We have a sick political culture,” said Jay Stewart, the executive director of the Chicago Better Government Association, “and that’s the environment that Barack Obama came from. Stewart says he does not understand why Obama has lectured others about corruption in Washington and Kenya but “been noticeably silent on the issue of corruption here in his home state, including at this point, mostly Democratic politicians.”

Can you blame the guy? Jesse Jackson is from Illinois, and recall what he said about Obama “talking down to black people” (”cut his nuts off”). These Democratic thugs would go further, and stick his severed manhood down his throat.

Soros Spreads the Wealth

Illegally.

But for some reason, he isn’t spreading his cheeks in prison.

I mentioned how the George Soros-funded group, Americans Coming Together, was hit with a $775,000 fine by the Federal Election Commission – the third largest civil penalty levied in the panel’s history — for gross campaign finance violations.

Yesterday, in little-noticed news, California’s campaign finance panel fined Soros directly for failing to disclose a $350,000 contribution that was funneled through the Drug Policy Action Network to help fund a ballot measure undermining the state’s Three Strikes law for criminals.

The California regulators noted that Soros had been a repeat offender, yet fined him a paltry $8,000!

Respondent’s violations are stated as follows:

COUNT 1: Respondent George Soros failed to timely disclose a $350,000 late contribution to the Fix Three Strikes Committee in a properly filed late contribution report, by the October 27, 2004 due date, in violation of Sections 84203, subdivision (a) and 84605, subdivision (b) of the Government Code.

COUNT 2: Respondent George Soros failed to timely file a semi-annual campaign statement by the January 31, 2005 due date, for the reporting period January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004, in violation of Section 84200, subdivision (b) and 84605, subdivision (b) of the Government Code.

Respondent has in the past been an active contributor in California politics, qualifying as a major donor committee and filing major donor campaign statements in 1996, 1999, and 2000. In 2002, respondent failed to timely file a late contribution report, and received a warning letter from the Enforcement Division in January 2003.

“Respondent”—I love it. It’s only one step away from defendant. Which is only one step away from convict.

Never gonna happen, I know. Even if he were convicted of serial campaign finance violations (aka bribery?), President Obama would pardon him before you could say “currency speculator”.

Stop it God, You’re Killing Me!

Barack Obama raised over $600 million dollars from foreign sources, Disney characters, and outright credit card fraud, while John McCain could barely sell enough brownies to cover his antacid costs—and Sarah Palin can only wash so many cars.

But guess who gets audited???

Oh, my sides! Almighty, you’re one twisted sumbitch:

Why would they want to audit Obama? The biggest fundraising operation in political history, infused with hundreds of millions of dollars from contributors whose names the campaign refuses to reveal, dependent upon a donation mechanism whose security measures were suspiciously and inexplicably disabled, and accused by reputable publications of having looked the other way at fraudulent donations that would have been detected immediately with cursory oversight.

Aside from that, I mean, why would they want to audit him?

The punchline? It’s because he’s rolling in dough that they’re less inclined to check him out.

Obama is expected to escape that level of scrutiny mostly because he declined an $84 million public grant for his campaign that automatically triggers an audit and because the sheer volume of cash he raised and spent minimizes the significance of his errors. Another factor: The FEC, which would have to vote to launch an audit, is prone to deadlocking on issues that inordinately impact one party or the other – like approving a messy and high-profile probe of a sitting president.

Barack Obama is so overdrawn at the karma bank, his eventual fall may leave a huge crater and kill off large land mammals.

Forget it Jake, It’s Boston [UPDATED]

We’ve got one State Senator accused of accosting women at random, making lewd suggestions and observations; another caught red-handed stuffing bribe money into her bra—even photographed symbolically holding her hand out to accept a payoff in front of the State House.

That’s how we roll here.

So who can be surprised to learn that Barack Obama’s beloved Aunti Zeituni lives on public assistance in South Boston not only as an illegal immigrant—and a fugitive from the law—but that she diverts some of that support right back to the campaign of her dear nephew, which donations are also patently illegal?

I’m just surprised she wasn’t a paid consultant on the Big Dig.

Barack Obama’s aunt, a Kenyan woman who has been quietly living in public housing in Boston, is in the United States illegally after an immigration judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, The Associated Press has learned.

Zeituni Onyango, 56, referred to as “Aunti Zeituni” in Obama’s memoir, was instructed to leave the United States by a U.S. immigration judge who denied her asylum request, a person familiar with the matter told the AP late Friday. This person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss Onyango’s case.

Information about the deportation case was disclosed and confirmed by two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcment official. The information they made available is known to officials in the federal government, but the AP could not establish whether anyone at a political level in the Bush administration or in the McCain campaign had been involved in its release.

Let’s face it, this is America as it really is. Rich charlatans leaving their aged relatives to suck off the public teat—and get fat doing so. As Oprah said: it’s Obama Time! The rest of us will get our country back when he’s done with it.

UPDATE
Obama responds:

A statement given to the AP by Obama’s campaign said, “Senator Obama has no knowledge of her status but obviously believes that any and all appropriate laws be followed.”

She attended Obama’s swearing-in to the U.S. Senate in 2004, but campaign officials said Obama provided no assistance in getting her a tourist visa and doesn’t know the details of her stay. The campaign said he last heard from her about two years ago when she called saying she was in Boston, but he did not see her there.

Last heard from her about two years ago, huh?

It doesn’t sound like she heard from him all that long ago:

She declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the November 4 election. “I can’t talk about it, I just pray for him, that’s all,” she said, adding: “After the 4th, I can talk to anyone.”

Get Used To It, People

Barack’s raised over $600 million—but prime-time TV half-hours don’t grow on trees.

He’s back for more:

It seems like only a week ago that The Ticket was whining about Barack Obama whining that after raising $605 million through September to buy the presidency, he was asking all of us one last time for just $10 more for some reason.

And we figured out that, October money aside, he’d have to spend $12.5 million a day just to unload September’s haul by Nov. 4.

The Democrat is already outspending the Republican by three and four-to-one, which if it was the other way around would surely be unconscionable.

So last night Obama dumped several million bucks on several TV networks, which they don’t mind, to talk at us slickly for 27 minutes about his change that we need.

And when that was over, pingo, here comes another e-mail from Windy City HQ. You’ll never guess what. He wants more money. More. Still.

Only next time, as president, he ain’t asking. “Spread the wealth” will go from an explanation to a demand. Auntie Zeituni needs a better crib.

Beliefs You Can Change

While you’re watching Barack Obama on every channel tonight, and trying to figure out when he’s lying (hint: it’s when his lips are moving), remember how he amassed so much money in the first place:

You may have heard that Wednesday night Barack Obama will be on five different TV networks speaking directly to the American people.

He bought 30 minutes of airtime from the different networks, a very expensive purchase. But hey, he can afford it. Barack Obama is loaded, way more loaded than John McCain, way more loaded than any presidential candidate has ever been at this stage of the campaign.

Just to throw a number out: He has raised well over $600 million since the start of his campaign, close to what George Bush and John Kerry raised combined in 2004.

Without question, Obama has set the bar at new height with a truly staggering sum of cash. And that is why as we approach this November, it is worth reminding ourselves what Barack Obama said last November.

One year ago, he made a promise. He pledged to accept public financing and to work with the Republican nominee to ensure that they both operated within those limits.

Faked you out, McCain! Sucker.

Still, Obama must still be feeling the sting of this betrayal:

CNN has rejected an attempt by the Barack Obama campaign to purchase airtime for its primetime ad Wednesday night.

“We did not want to pre-empt our programing lineup with a 30-minute spot,” a CNN spokesman said Tuesday. “We’d rather use our air to continue to cover the campaign, candidates and issues like we always do from all points of view with the best political team on television.”

MSNBC is planning to air the ad along with its broadcast partner NBC.

N-o-o-o-o…you’re kidding.

But where did they get $600 million? I thought his campaign was all about “spreading the wealth” from the better off to the worse off. Where are those poor people coming up with all that dosh?

Team Obama deliberately turned off the systems that would have guarded against the kind of fraudulent donations that have accrued millions to their coffers:

Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is allowing donors to use largely untraceable prepaid credit cards that could potentially be used to evade limits on how much an individual is legally allowed to give or to mask a contributor’s identity, campaign officials confirmed.

Faced with a huge influx of donations over the Internet, the campaign has also chosen not to use basic security measures to prevent potentially illegal or anonymous contributions from flowing into its accounts, aides acknowledged. Instead, the campaign is scrutinizing its books for improper donations after the money has been deposited.

In recent weeks, questionable contributions have created headaches for Obama’s accounting team as it has tried to explain why campaign finance filings have included itemized donations from individuals using fake names, such as Es Esh or Doodad Pro.

There is only one reason to deliberately choose to bypass those security processes, and that’s to facilitate fraud. Team Obama claims that they vet the donations after the fact, but that’s hogwash. It costs far more to do that than to screen for security codes and address verification up front, and everyone knows it. Obama counts on the fact that most of the fraud will fly under the radar of its victims, and the only cost they’ll incur is when they have to process refunds after getting a specific complaint.

“Change You Can Believe In” and “Beliefs You Can Change”: it works either way.
