Dear Jimmy,

Jews are willing to let bygones be bygones, President Carter, but they want a deal. (You know those Jews…)

Dear President Carter:

We at CAMERA have been outspoken in our criticism of the many factual errors and distortions about Israel in your book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid, as well as in various Op-Eds and media appearances. We’ve been greatly concerned that false allegations you’ve made damage Israel, promoting misunderstanding, enmity and prejudice against that nation and its people.

It is against this backdrop that we sincerely welcome your recent letter to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency in which you ask forgiveness from the Jewish community for statements that may have stigmatized Israel. As you may know, in Judaism the process of repentance also entails action to reverse any harm caused.

In this spirit, we urge you to join your promising words with concrete actions to redress troubling false statements you have made only recently about the Jewish state. In a Nov. 6, 2009 Op-Ed in the International Herald Tribune entitled “Goldstone and Gaza” you made false and exaggerated charges concerning the UN’s Goldstone report on the Gaza conflict. You referred erroneously to the “destruction” of 40,000 homes in Gaza and claimed “several hundred thousand homeless people suffered through last winter.” You refer to the “destruction of hospitals” and claim the Gaza Strip is “surrounded by an impenetrable wall.” You claim “the Goldstone committee examined closely the cause of deaths of 1,387 Palestinians who perished. . . ”

All these statements are factually false and contribute to inflaming negative perceptions of Israel. Efforts to redress the errors via communication with IHT editors failed with their saying you have refused to correct the false statements.

We do hope you’ll set the record straight and affirm your commitment to undo any wrongful stigmatizing of Israel. Below is the factual detail corroborating our concerns about the errors made:

There follow five major libels Carter has spread (or outright invented), which they invite him to retract and recant.

Here’s your Al Het, what’s your hurry?

Pigs Flying???

Did Jimmy Carter apologize for scapegoating Israel?

Jimmy Carter asked the Jewish community for forgiveness for any stigma he may have caused Israel.

In a letter released exclusively to JTA, the former U.S. president sent a seasonal message wishing for peace between Israel and its neighbors, and concluded: “We must recognize Israel’s achievements under difficult circumstances, even as we strive in a positive way to help Israel continue to improve its relations with its Arab populations, but we must not permit criticisms for improvement to stigmatize Israel. As I would have noted at Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, but which is appropriate at any time of the year, I offer an Al Het for any words or deeds of mine that may have done so.”

“Al Het” refers to the Yom Kippur prayer asking God forgiveness for sins committed against Him. In modern Hebrew it refers to any plea for forgiveness.

Carter has angered some U.S. Jews in recent years with writings and statements that place the burden of peacemaking on Israel, that have likened Israel’s settlement policies to apartheid, and that have blamed the pro-Israel lobby for inhibiting an evenhanded U.S. foreign policy.

Abraham Foxman, the Anti-Defamation League’s national director, welcomed the statement, calling it the “beginning of reconciliation.”

“We welcome any statement from a significant individual such as a former president who asks for Al Het,” Foxman said. “To what extent it is an epiphany, time will tell. There certainly is hurt which needs to be repaired.”

I have a hard, hard, hard time believing anything he says, but maybe he has seen the light? That would be astounding since he published yet another anti-Israel screed in one of the major papers within recent memory. At a minimum, I’d like to see him own the words and deeds that caused pain and publicly apologize, take questions regarding how he could possibly have been so wrong-headed for so long, that kind of thing. But, I’m not holding my breath.

Jimmah!

The Carter analogies are surfacing again

At one time, I believed that Obama was Jimmy reincarnated. I think we at BTL first started writing about the possibility back in February. I still see this from a foreign policy perspective, but regarding the economy, we might be headed somewhere different, possibly worse. Back in the day, Carter sat in the Rose Garden for 400 days while our diplomats were held hostage in the US Embassy in Iran. I can imagine something like that from Obama, no problem. Domestically, the story is different. Under Carter we had something called stagflation, which meant high unemployment and high inflation. Under Obama we have high unemployment and possibly deflation, something more akin to the depression. However, we are nowhere near the unemployment numbers of the Depression Era. And Obama is going to send Seniors each $250.00 to make up for the lack of cost-of-living increase in their Social Security checks! So it’s all good, I guess.

The Iranians taunt us with their open nuclear ambitions and we don’t have much to credibly offer in the way of sanctions (see above) and so we find ourselves grasping at straws in terms of an international dialogue with them. We are forced to take proven liars at their word because there is no realistic Plan B.

The North Koreans do as the Iranians do. They taunt knowing there will be no meaningful retaliation, especially if they dangle the possibility of progress with negotiations even as they flaunt the spirit of those negotiations.

Our ally in Afghanistan bald-facedly steals an election because he knows he has us over a barrel, believing we need him more than he needs us and that in any event, we won’t punish him for his indiscretions. Our reaction is grumbling and strong language and planning for him to remain in his misappropriated office.

On Afghan policy there is an all-in, all-out debate and it increasingly looks like the president will split the difference between both sides. David Ignatius writes in today’s Washington Post:

Obama’s deliberative pace is either heartening or maddening, depending on your perspective. Personally, I think he’s wise to take his time on an issue in which it’s so hard to know the right answer. But I worry that the White House approach will soften the edges so much that the policy itself will be fuzzy and doomed to failure.

Another difference between our own times and the Carter period is that the stock market is doing quite well. When Obama came to office, he talked it down. This created a wonderful opportunity for anyone smart enough to buy. During the Carter years we had high unemployment, high inflation, and a lousy stock market. So which was worse? Hard to say.

The Carter Reich

It is worth remembering that while Jimmy Carter was a self-described redneck, a racist, and a Jew-hater, he couldn’t be the worst president in history alone. He needed help.

And Lord knows he had plenty of it in his administration and his party:

In a little noticed interview with the Daily Beast (presumably little noticed because serious people don’t read the Daily Beast), Zbigniew Brzezinski suggests that Barack Obama do more than just refuse to support an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear sites — the American president must give the order to shoot down Israeli aircraft as they cross Iraqi airspace:

DB: How aggressive can Obama be in insisting to the Israelis that a military strike might be in America’s worst interest?

Brzezinski: We are not exactly impotent little babies. They have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are we just going to sit there and watch?

DB: What if they fly over anyway?

Brzezinski: Well, we have to be serious about denying them that right. That means a denial where you aren’t just saying it. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have the choice of turning back or not. No one wishes for this but it could be a Liberty in reverse.

I thought “Brzezinski” was a Polish name, not a Swedish one. Go figure.

Today’s progressive thought holds blood libel against Jews as legal and proper, and considers Jews fair game in warfare. They are fine in their own little ghetto, defined by us, but if they poke their little heads (and big noses) out too far, they might have them shot off.

Why Not the Noose?

The other day, I wrote in regard to Jimmy Carter’s slandering of those who disagree with President Obama: “Jimmy Carter says that as a southerner he knows racism. I guess it’s kind of like lust: something he’s felt in his heart.”

How right I was:

[I]t’s worth remembering Carter’s own history of racial demagoguery. Carter campaigned for governor of Georgia as a self-proclaimed “redneck,” in an era when that word had pronounced racial connotations. His campaign distributed a photo of his gubernatorial opponent Carl Sanders being embraced by black basketball players to a Ku Klux Klan rally. Carter pledged to invite Alabama’s infamous segregationist governor George Wallace to Georgia if elected. He once said he was “proud” to have the equally segregationist Lester Maddox as his lieutenant governor following the 1970 election, calling Governor Axe-handle “the essence of the Democratic Party” (which he was).

In 1972, Carter promised – then broke his promise – to the newly crippled Wallace to nominate or second him at the Democratic National Convention in Miami, jumping at the opportunity to give the nomination speech for Henry “Scoop” Jackson.

This can’t exactly be news. In fact, Jake Tapper made passing reference to it in 2000.

So why the silence?

Why do we not hear this clip from Carter’s brother-in-robes, and fellow Democrat, Robert Byrd?

Martin Luther King fled the scene. He took to his heels and disappeared, leaving it to others to cope with the destructive forces he had helped to unleash. And I hope that well meaning Negro leaders and individuals in the Negro community in Washington will now take a new look at this man who gets other people into trouble and then takes off like a scared rabbit.

I guess we can be thankful that at least he didn’t call him a coon. The Democratic Party harbors racists, anti-Semites, borderline psychopaths, and more America-haters than at a MoveOn.org sack race. Would anybody even care to try to dispute that?

Carter Doubles Down, Double-Crosses

Jimmy Carter says that as a southerner he knows racism. I guess it’s kind of like lust: something he’s felt in his heart.

But much as the White House wants to put a parsec between itself and the peanut farmer-in-chief, he’s not backing down:

“The president does not believe that criticism comes based on the color of his skin,” Gibbs said in his Wednesday briefing at the White House. “We understand that people have disagreements with some of the decisions that we’ve made and some of the extraordinary actions that had to be taken by both this administration and the previous administration.”

“I think it’s unprecedented to attack a president, wishing he were dead, and equating him with animals and Adolf Hitler,” Carter said. “That was the point that I made.”

Never mind that he said it. How can the media let him get away with it?

That took about two minutes on Google Images.

Jimmy Carter is a liar. An anti-Semite and a liar. And the media puts him on a platform higher than Hitler’s at Nuremberg.

First He Slandered the Jews

And I did not speak up because what do I care about the Jews.

Actually, Aggie and I have spoken up plenty about that old Jew-hatin’ klansman, Jimmy Carter. Click on his name in the right-hand column to see all the red hot pokers we have merrily shoved up his a**.

But now I’m pi**ed off (could ya tell)?

I know Aggie has already linked to the story, but I’m too cross-eyed with rage merely to leave this as a comment.

Now, Jimmy has went and gone and called us racists.

For opposing President Obama.

Never mind dissent was supposed to be the highest form of patriotism—that’s so 2005. Evidently, we can’t ever disagree with a black man (even half a black man) without facing our inner Bull Connor.

It may be Carter who said it, but this a point of view widely held among the Left. We can’t disagree, there is no such thing as vigorous debate—oh no, the Left looks at its (intellectually superior) opponents and sees pure evil. Undiluted, hair-raising, bowel-loosening evil.

Like something out of Hieronymus Bosch:

That’s Rush Limbaugh in the middle.

I’m sick of ‘em. They are my friends, they are my family, but I am through with being insulted, slandered, by leftists too stupid or close-minded to consider an alternate point of view to their sainted stances.

Racism is the last refuge of scoundrels. Which is why you’re hearing so much about it today. ObamaCare is on the ropes, and it must be knocked down for the count because it is bad policy.

And I won’t be labeled by some anti-Semite with straw in his mouth and hair in his ears. Go [bleep] yourself, Carter.

Carter Calls Wilson A Racist

The old Jew hater speaks out

Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that racial politics played a role in South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst during President Obama’s speech to Congress last week and in some of the opposition the president has faced since taking office.

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American,” Carter told NBC News. “I live in the South, and I’ve seen the South come a long way, and I’ve seen the rest of the country that shares the South’s attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African-Americans.”

“That racism inclination still exists, and I think it’s bubbled up to the surface because of belief among many white people — not just in the South but around the country — that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country. It’s an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply,” Carter said.

Well, Jimmah, I’ve been listening to your comments carefully for almost 30 years now and can tell you that the old timey antisemitism of the South still exists and you are the mouthpiece. It is an abominable circumstance and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply.

There, that was fun copying the old Southern prophet bit. He really lays it on, doesn’t he? Abominable circumstance? Guess what! People have a right to their opinions. Despite all his goofs and blunders, most people still like Obama very much, despite that fact that his presidency reminds us all of Carter’s miserable four years in office.

You want to know an abominable circumstance? It is an abominable circumstance that the media doesn’t want to report on the fact that a taxpayer sponsored entity, ACORN, is eager to help advance the cause of child prostitution and tax evasion. It is horrifying that Obama has worked so closely with ACORN in the past and that they are in line to receive beaucoup federal dollars. Just abominable, ya’ know?

Mr. Freeze and the Squirrel Monkeys

Hey, President Obama!

Suck on this freeze:

Defense Minister Ehud Barak approved on Sunday evening construction of 455 new housing units in settlements in Judea and Samaria, a Defense Ministry statement confirmed on Monday morning.

Barak also approved the construction of a Sports Park in Ariel, the statement continued, and a plan for a new school in Har Adar is currently in the works.

This approval comes prior to the government’s expected declaration of a settlement moratorium, part of a package the US administration is trying to put together to relaunch the diplomatic process.

It’s bad enough that Jews should have houses in Israel—but schools in which to learn, and fields on which to play? Call an emergency cabinet meeting!

Oh, by the way, this is what happens when you bend over backwards to appease your terrorist buddies:

The leader of an al-Qaida-inspired group in the Gaza Strip revealed on Sunday that his men recently tried to assassinate former US president Jimmy Carter and Quartet Middle East envoy Tony Blair.

Mahmoud Taleb, a former commander of Hamas’s armed wing, Izzadin Kassam, also threatened that his supporters were planning to launch attacks on Hamas.

Hamas officials believe that Taleb’s group, which is called Jaljalat (Thunder), was behind last week’s bomb explosions outside two government-controlled security institutions in Gaza City. The attacks, they said, were apparently designed to avenge the crackdown on Jund Ansar Allah.

Gaza Strip sources said that Jaljalat consists of dozens of former Hamas militiamen who left because of their movement’s move toward “moderation.”

Fatah is too soft for Hamass, and Hamass is too soft for Jaljalat. It won’t be long before a pack of rabid squirrel monkeys declares jihad on the whole pack of ‘em.

But Jimmy Carter will bless them nevertheless, as he makes this gesture toward Israel:

Reports came yesterday that by today, over 220 illegal immigrants in Libya mostly Nigerians may be executed. It said that out of this number, 30 were allegedly executed in the early hours of Thursday in the prison yard in Tripoli, the Libyan capital.

Among the Nigerian illegal immigrants awaiting execution in Libya is a 37-year-old Benedict Ukoma Jude from Imo State who was arrested along with other Nigerians for entering the country without

valid documents.

The arrested Nigerians are said to be kept separately from other nationals from Ghana, Niger, Cameroun ,Algeria and Mali just as the Nigerians are said to being dehumanized before their alleged execution. An official of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja however was said to have reported that the Nigerian government was not aware of such development.

But the Benedict Ukoma Jude who spoke from his prison cell in Libya Thusrday said most Nigerian illegal immigrants were arrested in the desert while trying to cross to Europe. Benedict, denied being involved in any criminal activity in Libya, adding that the illegal aliens were arraigned before a court after the arrest, and that the charges against them were read to them in the language they could not understand while the judicial officers feigned

not to understand English.

He alleged that the Libyan authorities have been killing illegalaliens in batches since last week, stressing that the remaining prisoners would be executed tomorrow as over 10 Nigerians were amongthose executed Thursday.

Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the UN, and Barack Obama will be commenting shorty. Ditto Desdmont Tutu, Jimmy Carter and Mary Robinson. Wake me when they start to talk, will ya’?
