Rigid Authoritarian Obama Wants To End Catholic Education

Because we need more secularism, right?

The Catholic media is up in arms over comments President Obama made during a speech while in Northern Ireland for the G8 summit. Obama made what is described as “an alarming call for an end to Catholic education,” in spite of the fact that it is considered “a critical component of the Church.”

In front of an audience of about 2,000 young people, including many Catholics, Obama claimed that Catholic education divides people and blocks peace, according to the Scottish Catholic Observer.

“If towns remain divided—if Catholics have their schools and buildings and Protestants have theirs, if we can’t see ourselves in one another and fear or resentment are allowed to harden—that too encourages division and discourages cooperation,” Obama said.

I’ve never even visited Ireland, largely because they currently have far too much Jew hatred in their culture, but I believe that Catholicism is a force for good in the world and that Obama is way, way, way out of line. He has no reason to comment on the choice of the Catholic parents in Ireland. It is flat-out none of his business.

I must admit that he has something here, if there were NO faith based schools at all I think that life would be a lot better for all of our children.Lets be honest ( I mean really honest ,really really honest ………..) All faith based schools are little short of brainwashing of the most vulnerable in society i.e. our children.Do away with ALL religious education in ALL schools and the world will be a better place. I do not mean that the Hareidi in Israel or the Buddists in Thailand or the Catholics in Europe or the Muslims in Pakistan may not propogate their religious beliefs to their children BUT it should be done outside of school hours and outside of schools.
When I was a small boy I was forced to attend a catholic school in England by my adoptive parents I can still remember many decades later being called Cat Lickers by the Protestant kids as they came out of their school and our lot shouting back Proddy Dogs . Organised religion far from being a force for good is ( in my humble opinion) the exact opposite dividing communities.
Your comments Aggie that Catholicism is a force for good is simply an uneducated opinion looking superficially at Mother Theresa or Pope John Paul II whilst the truth will horrify anyone with an ounce of free will. E= MC squared is the only truth that the world needs and all that this entails.

Sounds more like a call to end religious education. Don’t his daughters go to Sidwell Friends School?

Good point, they do! I guess some religious education is more equal than others.
