Golden State, Yellow Menace

Oh California, your racism is showing!

Residents of a Southern California suburb are protesting against a hilltop home that they say serves as a maternity center for Chinese mothers paying thousands of dollars to give birth to so-called “anchor babies.”

Dozens picketed a Chino Hills intersection on Saturday, holding signs that read “No Birth Tourism” and “Not Here! Not in USA!”

The city’s mayor tells the San Bernardino Sun that rooms in the house have been rented out to pregnant Chinese women until they give birth.

Kelly Good tells the Sun the[y] come legally on tourist visas, but their intention is to give birth in the United States so their children would automatically gain citizenship. She said that’s a “false pretense.”

Maybe so—but how is it different from what thousands of women from Mexico and Central and South America do every year? Seriously, I don’t get it.

Me, I think it’s cynical and wrong in every case (well I suppose I can allow a few exceptions). But why does a state that positively welcomes the “undocumented” react so hostilely to a few Chinese mothers-to-be? It’s like the bad old days of anti-Chinese hysteria out there.

PS: Just yesterday we reported on Democratic opposition to a Republican initiative to devote 55,000 work visas to foreign student in the sciences and engineering fields. Today it’s the Chinese. Are liberals telling us that they want only some kind of immigrants, and the kind they want are not Asian and not educated? That’s the message I’m getting.

Perhaps we should allow everyone on the planet to live and work where they want. It certainly would make life more interesting.

Governments would have to compete against other governments to attract taxpayers.

There is an old English saying ” If a cat has her kittens in a kipper box are they fish ?”……………..meaning you are what you are regardless of where you are born.Whites have lived in South Africa since 1650 while most black tribes only moved to South Africa centuries after this date but whites are called Europeans and blacks are accepted as true South Africans.
